6th class trip to The Ulster American Folk Park

On Thursday 15th November, 6th class travelled to The Ulster American Folk Park outside Omagh, Co. Tyrone. Our hard work on Fun Day in October paid off and we had raised the entire cost of the trip. It was an early start- we left at 7am! We were given a tour of the park and then split into groups to take part in workshops. We had a fantastic day.

Geography- Rocks

We are learning about the characteristics of some common rock types 

and where they may be found in Ireland and in other parts of the world. 

We found out that there are three rock groups- igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. 

We examined rocks- their appearance, texture and colour. 

We tried to match these characteristics to what we know about sandstone, granite, schist, mudstone, limestone and basalt. It was quite difficult!

We also tested their strength using a scratch test.

 



Happy Halloween

History- Local studies

As part of the ‘Local studies’ work, the children in room 12 completed projects on Kenure House or The RMS Tayleur. They presented these to the class. The presentations and projects were very impressive. Well done!

 

Art- Construction

The children in room 12 constructed dioramas using a shoe box and waste materials. They were asked to design and create a small scale model of their ideal bedroom. The finished pieces are amazing.
