We are learning about the characteristics of some
common rock types
and where they may be found in Ireland and in other parts of the
world.
We found out that there are three rock groups- igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.
We examined rocks- their appearance, texture and colour.
We tried to match these characteristics to what we know about sandstone, granite, schist, mudstone, limestone and basalt. It was quite difficult!
We also tested their strength using a scratch test.
